Sri Kapartheeswarar temple, Thiruvalanchuzhi

This is a fantastic temple near to Kumbakonam, on the Thanjavur highway.

Adi Seshan came out of this spot and created a chasm there. River Kaveri entered this chasm which then got sealed on the top. King Kaveri was dejected and prayed. Eranda munivar then covered up the chasm. River Kaveri then sprung out of there, after creating a rightwards(clockwise) meander.

That spot came to be known as Thiruvalanchuzhi.

The powerful presiding deity, Lord Siva is known as Sri Kapartheeswarar. His son, Sri Ganapathy is very special here because the statue is sculpted out of a white coloured sea salt called Kadal Norai.
