Thirukarugavoor is at about 6 kms from Papanasam, Thanjavur district. The deity's name is Sri Mullaivananaathar. But Goddess Sri Garba Rakshaambikai is the one who rules here.
This shrine is on the southern bank of river Kaveri. On the Pancha Aaranya temples of the southern bank, this is the first temple. Women who've suffered from miscarriages and abortions, should worship at this temple in order to be blessed with a child. The Goddess here is protector of the womb, hence She is known as Garba Rakshaambikai. History says a woman devotee called Vedhikai was blessed by the Goddess with a child.
Here, castor oil is the prasadam. Placing the infant on a golden crib and circumambulating the Goddess' sanctum is a thanksgiving ritual here. Also, offering any desired commodity equivalent to the baby's weight, is also a thanksgiving practice here.
