In a recent press release, Samsung Electronics announced a web browser optimized for the Gear VR. Simply called Samsung Internet for Gear VR (not the most inventive name, perhaps), the service allows users to intuitively browse the web through their Gear VR headsets.
Chan-Woo Park, who serves as the Vice President of Product Strategy Team at Samsung Electronics, stated in the press release that this service is just the next logical step in VR: "As the demand for 360-degree, immersive video content rapidly rises – Samsung Internet for Gear VR further enriches the VR content ecosystem for our consumers, setting an industry standard for the VR viewing experience."
KEY FEATURES
Internet for Gear VR will support 360-degree and 3D video streaming along with HTML5 video content from the web.
If that's not cool enough, the service uses voice recognition and and on-screen keyboard for text input. Users will able to select menus by gazing at it, using the Gear VR's Gaze Mode. That said, Samsung Internet for Gear VR is currently in its beta and will be available in the Oculus Store on December 2.
A companion app, Samsung Internet for Android, will also allow users to import bookmarks.
