On Thanjavur-Kumbakonam highway is situated Papanasam town, at about 26 kms from Thanjavur. Lord Rama had installed and worshipped the lingam here and hence Siva is known as Sri Ramalingaswamy. 108 Siva lingams were installed here, hence it is also known as 108 Siva temple. Goddess here is Sri Parvathavardhini.
This is the only ancient historical temple in Tamilnadu with 108 Siva lingams! Sri Rama worshipped in this holy spot along with Sita, to relieve Himself of Brahmahathti dosham. Hence, it is also known as Keezhai Rameswaram.
Masi month Sivarathri is celebrated grandly here. Taking darshan in this shrine would relieve us of all our sins.
