History says that the daughter of the King of Kolli Hills was once suffering from a severe stomach ache. The King who could not bear to see his daughter suffer, pleaded to Lord Shiva to rid her of her pain. In response, the king heard a heavenly voice that directed him to worship at this temple. It is said that upon worshiping Lord Shiva in his magnificent dance form, Nataraja, the king's daughter became well.
It is believed that when worshiped sincerely, this temple cures even the deadliest of diseases and improves health for a long life.
